The Challenge: A PBS station, KEDT, came to Farenthold Consulting with a unique project on their hands. For six years they had been filming a documentary on a Mexican-American civil rights leader, Dr. Hector P. Garcia. Now they were 6 months from their premier and needed a website that not only raised interest in the documentary but served as an educational vehicle and digital library.

The Solution: Farenthold Consulting met with the producers of the show several times to discuss the key points to be showcased by the website. It became evident that emphasizing the vast collection of Dr. Garcia's notes, historical photos and documents was the key to revealing the most about the man. FC created a simple introduction page that displayed important categories of the site while relaying a constant theme of patriotism and equality. Once the user explored deeper into the history of Dr. Garcia the website guides them through all the key moments in his life and political struggle.

To handle all the images to be displayed, FC and the show's producers created a photo gallery that is broken up into historical periods from Dr. Garcia's Youth to his speeches at the United Nations. Over 100 images are displayed with photo credits, a description, and two image sizes: thumbnail and detailed. Along with the collection of pictures, the website also offers archived documents, sound clips and several Quicktime movie clips taken directly from the film.

The educational portion of the website gives teachers and students access to lesson plans, crossword puzzles, and community activities. All this is wrapped up in a package that reflects the pride Dr. Garcia had in his country and his people.
